ALL ABOUT DOMS

When you first start your fitness journey, you are potentially performing movements your muscles have never done before! This requires a lot more energy to pump blood to these muscles until your muscles adapt to the stimulus.

This is why, in the beginning, we get quite severe DOMS (Delayed onset Muscle Soreness).

DOMS is completely normal and though it can be very uncomfortable and debilitating, it does improve - you just have to keep sticking at working out and getting your body used to these new movements - until it requires less effort and less muscle fibres to activate the muscles - causing adaptation.

Even years into your fitness journey you might still occasionally get DOMS, if you've had a particularly intense workout or you’ve maybe performed different movements, done more dropsets, or reps etc. But your body becomes more resillient to the feeling and it is never as bad as that first week.
